Interior Painting - What To Expect

Estimation

How are interior estimates of flat spaces calculated?

We calculate the square footage of paintable space on walls, ceilings and floors to provide a consistent price throughout your home. To do this, we obtain length, width and heights of each room. This portion of the estimate can be done remotely as long as dimensions of each room can be provided.

How are interior estimates of trim work and decorative aspects calculated?

We calculate linear footage of trim work (baseboard, chair rail, crown molding). Decorative aspects, such as built ins or cabinetry is calculated on a job by job basis. Trim work can be calculated remotely, however, decorative aspects cannot.

In Person Estimates

A team member will schedule a time to visit your home or business. We will walk the project with you, and obtain measurements of each space you would like painted.

Remote Estimates

Remote estimates can be completed over the phone or via email. Give us a call at 614-834-9612 or contactus@intpainting.com to get the process started!

Ready To Move Forward

That's awesome! We can't wait to complete this project with you! Reach out to our team to get on the schedule. We do not require any money up front to get on the schedule.

Scheduling

Our schedule is put together based upon weather and work load. We can provide a rough start date when more than a month out. Once we get one to two weeks out, we will reach out to provide you with a firm start date. If that date doesn't work for your situation, let us know! We can almost always shift our schedule around.

Before We Start

You've committed to completing your project, now what?

Colors

Colors can be selected up until about 5 days before your project starts. When selecting a color, pick anything from the local retailer. We need the color name, color code and color manufacturer.

Your Prep Work

Our team does ALL of the heavy lifting. We only ask you to remove the breakables. Take down photos, nick knacks, and family heirlooms. If you plan to put photos back up in the same places, leave the fastener in the wall. If you don't, remove the fastener, and our team will fix the holes left behind. We encourage you to take photos of each room prior to disassembly. This will aid in putting it back together.

Our Prep Work

Our team will move all of your furniture to the center of the room, and cover it with drop clothes and plastic sheeting. We will vacuum and clean the trim work prior to painting to ensure adhesion. We do remove all outlet and switch covers during the process. We also remove any blinds or window treatments in the way. After the job is completed, we put everything back where it was.

During The Process

Coverage

Our team starts by protecting all surfaces in your home. Drops and plastic will be laid down on all floors.

Drywall Repair

All repairs are addressed after moving the room. If you have a particular spot that isn't obvious to our team, please point it out to them.

Sanding

All drywall repairs and rough areas are sanded to ensure a smooth finish coat. This process may be accompanied with some dust. Don't worry, we will address the mess!

Tape and Back Fill

We tape off all edges and backfill them to prevent paint seepage. This process will also fills in any seams or gaps between trim work and the walls. This will also fill in seams between two pieces of trim work. Please note that we must be painting these surfaces to address these issues. We cannot fill a seam if the trim work will not be painted.

Priming

Priming is done on an as needed basis. Below are some of the reasons priming takes place. This portion will be listed on your estimate.

  • Coverage - Have a water stain or nicotine on the walls? Primer is required to seal that color back.

  • Prior applications - If the surfaces were painted with oil based paints, primer is required to appropriately cover.

  • Raw products - If we are painting over raw wood, drywall or glass, a primer is required to ensure appropriate bond.

Paint and primer all in one products are great, but do not cover all applications. We utilize paint and primer in one products to go over existing painted surfaces (non oil based).

Drywall Review

It's not uncommon for additional flaws to show up after the first coat of paint has been applied. We reassess the conditions of the walls after one coat to see if any additional repair work needs to be done. Don't hesitate to point areas out that you see. Not all imperfections can be fixed without major work, but the vast majority can.

Finishing Coat

After any additional wall repair has been completed, we add a second coat of paint, then assess that you have complete and consistent coverage. Our quotes are coat to coverage, meaning that we will apply additional coats at no cost to you until we feel the coverage is correct.

Clean Up

At the end of each day on your job we will leave our items organized and out of the way. Once the job is finished we remove all tape and protective coverings. We reinstall all window treatments, switch plates and outlet covers. Lastly, we replace your furniture. Our team removes all trash, including excess paint. Ask us about taking extra paint you need to get rid of, even if it wasn't part of our project!

Interior Painting - What should I Expect?

After we finish the project, and do a final job walk with you, we issue an invoice. The invoice is due 14 days from that point. Terms and conditions can be negotiated during the estimation process. If you need to extend out past 14 days, please let us know!

What happens if additional touch ups are required

Should anything arise during that 14 day period, reach out to us a soon as possible. Our team members will address any issues that arise. If the repairs are not able to be addressed before the end of the 14 day period, don't worry! We will extend the due date until our work is complete.
